There is madness spreading on the streets of Cobalt City.

Thankfully, the city has superheroes to protect it.

An international consortium of tech firms is about to unveil a huge leap forward in space technology with an orbital platform and space elevator anchored just off the coast of Cobalt City. But the project isn’t without its detractors, such as the technologically advanced nation of D’habu, which sees the project as a global threat, and the pernicious Sky Pirates’ frequent raids of construction deliveries.

Enter Kara Sparx and Madjack. The thrill-seeking inventor and rebellious musician/daughter of a failed alien conqueror would be the last people to call themselves heroes. But since Stardust’s ex-wife is part of the Skyhook project and good friends with Kara, there’s no one better to navigate the deadly line between pirates and politics.

But when push comes to shove, D’habu has one more ace in its sleeve: Edirin Okoloko, a.k.a. Knockabout, one of the most powerful members of legendary Cobalt City team The Protectorate. If Knockabout enters the fray, it could create an international incident that will shake the Throne of Heaven.

Throne of Heaven is stand-alone novella of high-flying action and political intrigue from Cobalt City creator Nathan Crowder that can also be read as a piece of the puzzle in the four-part epic Mad World Cycle.

People are messy.

As far as Ruby Killingsworth is concerned, personal entanglements are far more burdensome than managing her billion-dollar entertainment empire. Up to this point, she’s preferred to avoid them whenever possible.

But some things can’t always be helped …

From the complexity of a long-distance romance to a rekindled fling with the handsome hero next door, to somehow finding herself playing hostess to her lover’s super-powered niece, Ruby has never had so many people in her life at once.

And much to her own surprise, she doesn’t even hate it.

Follow Cobalt City’s hottest villain through six short stories as she navigates life, love, music, politics, the limits of her own power, and the pitfalls of being publicly hero-adjacent.

“I do love it when you talk like a supervillain.”

Once upon a time, Ruby and Vivienne were rivals and enemies. Now? Theirs is a happiness neither one of them saw coming, and things between them are almost perfect.

Almost.

There’s still the matter of The Raven. Ruby intends to make Vivienne’s on-again lover, off-again nemesis pay for the harm he’s done to both of them.

“Let him suffer tenfold every injustice he has done to you.”

Too bad Vivienne insists on leaving him alive.

But Ruby has other ways of dealing with the men who have wronged her.

“You enchanted him, didn’t you…? Jesus, Ginger, what did you do?”

A web of lies, a tangle of magic, and one dark and dirty secret threaten to destroy everything they’ve built together.

“Darling, I can’t just let you compromise all my hard work.”
